fyeahuniverse: City-Sized Asteroid In Earth-Fly-By On the night of June the 14th a 500m wide asteroid came within 5.3 million kilometers of Earth. The asteroid, 2012 LZ1 was too far away to be seen by most backyard sky-watchers, but for those who stayed inside at their computers, they would have caught a good look at it. The Slooh Space Camera had a live feed running the entire time and it garnered good viewing figures. Astronomers has decided awhile back that it did not pose a threat to Earth and this might well explain why lots of us didn’t know about it. You can catch the video here.
